JV Soccer suffers their first loss ...

Posted By: Coach Victor on 12/11/2009

Cathedral's JV Soccer team traveled thursday to Brentwood High School looking to extend their win streak to four games. Right from the start Brentwood applied high pressure and complicated the life of the defenders. This did not allow the Phantoms to play from the back as they wished . The pressure proved to be too much and granted the home team six corners and capitalized on three of them. Two of those goals came in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Phantoms were able to close the gap with a goal by Victor Randall(Fr.) off an assist fromJustin Burroughs(Fr.) on the 20th minute. Goalkeepr Albert Vega(Fr.) had trouble holding on to the ball on the first goals and gave away a rebound on the third goal. The opposing team simply overmatched Cathedral's intensity and ended with the score in their favor 3-1.

During halftime the team regrouped and changed their game plan. The defense tightened up while the midfield started winning 50/50 balls. Alexi Aguilar(So.) and Bernardo Sanchez(So.) were able disrupt the home team's attack and quickly transition into offense by switching the point of attack. This allowed Andrew Billie(Fr.) and Dk(So.) to penetrate trough the sidelines and get some crosses into the box. This gave Cathedral confidence and determination to turn the score around. The team had a few chances with four clear opportunities inside the 18, but the opposing goalkeeper made some good saves. Unfortunately the team ran out of time and came up short with a 3-1 loss for the first time this season. Coach Victor was extremely dissapointed by the way his team performed during the first half but was very pleased with their second half effort.
