Cathedral JV Soccer defeats Bosco Tech 3-0.

Posted By: Administrator on 1/27/2010

Friday the 15th, the Phantoms welcomed Bosco Tech to the Graveyard for their first home league game. Cathedral started of strong right of the bat. During the first 10 minutes of the game the Purple&White created a few breakaways but were not able to capitalize on them. The Phantoms were aggresive from the start and kept winning 50/50 balls at midfield and quickly transitioning into offense. This caught the Tiger defense off guard allowing substitute Jonathon Leiva(Jr.) to score on a breakaway with ease putting the home team upfront 1-0 of an assist from Victor R.(Fr.). The Phantoms kept playing smart holding on to possesion and creating chances for goal through combination plays from the flanks. Eventually it payed off with five minutes left in the half when Alfonso R.(Jr.) scored on a one time shot off a cross from Andrew Billie(Fr.). The half ended 2-0 with the home team leading the way.

During the second half the Phantoms kept the high pressure up and maintained possesion through out the rest of the game. Cathedral came close a few times to scoring but were only able to strike goal once with a through ball from Alan E. (So.) to Andrew B.(Fr.) who simply beat the right defender and goalkeeper by toe-poking the ball into the net. For the second game in a row the Phantoms were able to keep their swagger up front and managed to dictate the game defensively. The JV team now (6-1-1) could have not asked for a better way to start first week of league. The team is playing real well at the moment, but there is no doubt there are areas still to be worked on and hopefully improve on. Cathedral hopes to ride their 3-game win streak this week against another tough opponent La Salle High School.
